    Trunk light wiring

So I'm getting ready to install a back-up camera and I'd like to use the trunk light harness for power. I'm pretty sure its always live (or is there a switch - don't see one anywhere). It has two wires, one white and one red/orange-ish. I'm guessing the red one is the hot one, but not sure. Tried to find on line which is which but couldn't. And with no search function on this forum (apparently) no luck here. Anybody?

I would suggest using a multimeter to test the wires in question. That would be the easiest way, I think.

Also, if you look on the right hand side of the page under "Site Navigation" there is a search box with an Advanced Search option. Just FYI.

Better yet, go the FT86club forum and do a search for "backup camera installation" there.
There's at least one detailed install post with pics.
[Don't have time at the moment or I would search and post the link.]

Best of luck on installing a mod that most of us would appreciate.

I posted a link to the ft86 page related to a reverse camera on a separate post, it details the full build.

You're biggest concern with wiring to the tail light would be if it's not a hot wire the head unit may not recognize that another device is connected, and subsequently, may not deliver a picture to the Head Unit. For example, I wanted to wire a camera to the reverse wire thinking this would be the safest way to power the camera without it constantly draining power from an always hot wire. The problem with this wiring was that the HU wouldn't recognize the camera unless I started the car in Reverse. Your best power source is to tap into the HU. You'll also have to deal with the fact that the US (I'm assuming you live in the states) HU doesn't come with an RCA input. You actually have to create/buy your own. And you have to ground or bypass the ebrake to get the camera to play.
