There is a Subaru OEM camera that goes for about $160. I think its for the Forester, but can be isntalled in our cars. A company called Specialized Performance is selling a kit but too expensive using that cam, for $325.

There are kits out there that tilt the side mirrors down when you go into reverse. It's on certain cars stock, but I was looking for the aftermarket kits. But they are cool, help save curb brush.

Do you know all the parts we would need to mate the Forester camera to the BRZ's head unit? I'm thinking about ordering them and figuring this out.

Amazon.com: Subaru Forester Impreza Backup Rear View Camera Monitor: Automotive

Since the nav unit is the same the wiring should be no issue, I don't think that camera will mount up though. Maybe someone can verify.

I was thinking of getting the parts and just rigging up my own mount solution by the license plate. However, from what a Subaru Parts Manager says in this thread, you'll need more than just the Camera from the Forester - there's the matter of harnessing it into the BRZ's head unit and one of the connectors on our head unit only has one of the wires connected, so not sure if that's an issue: Scion FR-S Forum | Subaru BRZ Forum | Toyota 86 GT 86 Forum | AS1 Forum - FT86CLUB - View Single Post - Stock Rear View Camera for Fujitsu Ten?

I've seen the BeatSonic backup camera kit which looks to mount to the license plate bolt. I like the look of the OEM placement better. Besides the $325 kit, anyone heard of anything? And has anyone posted a thread or DIY on this yet??

I bought a camera that I'm hoping can be used as the backup camera. I haven't pulled the nav unit out of the dash yet so I don't know what sort of video inputs are there. This camera system has a video output jack exactly like you'd see in your home electronics. My plan wire it to the reverse lights. I'm not sure how to overcome the video out issue though since I have a manual transmission and I don't think the Subaru nav unit will play video of any sort with the e-brake disengaged (which you have to do to move the car in reverse) is this a rational issue or am I over thinking this ?

I've almost got this riddle solved. I bought a reverse camera from carID for. Less than $30 that uses an RCA cable to plug into the car. The HU in the bRZ has a 16 pin connector with video input and e-brake grounding bypass (so the monitor will activate with the car in reverse with the ebrake off. There's a couple of posts as to which pins to use for video in (mines a 12v source) once I get it all figured out I'll post a DIY. I think it can be done for less than $50
