Coincidentally, Subaru BRZ's OEM audio system's frequency response curve behaves like it's torque curve - there is a dip around 350 Hz (3500 rpm for the torque). I tweaked the EQ settings today, hoping to avoid upgrading the sound system and save a few bucks.

Below are my settings:

Below is the resulting Pink Noise frequency response curve. My goal was not to make it flat, but to make my BRZ sound like my home audio system with warm sound, clear mids, less harshness on high end, to minimize listening fatigue on long drives.

Here is a quick test of the resulting frequency response:

I just got back from a nice 45 minute drive through some twisty backroads.

I used your EQ settings and R4 sound position and I can now say your settings are amazing. Even at louder volumes it wasn't tiring. Thanks so much for posting this to help all us other guys out :)

First of all the BRZ has one of the worst sounding stock radios I have heard in a long time. Your EQ settings help somewhat but the music sounds even more unnatural when playing acoustic or non computer generated music. The rear fade helps allot but significantly lowers the output of the system. I know most of the problem is with the head unit because the base Pioneer FRS system sounds much better. As soon as the Iphone 5 compatible aftermarket navigation or App radios come out the crappy stock radio comes out. After a few years the whole system will be replaced with Morel speakers and Ark Audio amplifiers. I love car audio but most of the time when I am driving I have the system off. The BRZ is a wonderful car. I am positive for 90% of folks the stock radio is fine. For me it must go.

I'm sure most of us agree but would rather spend money on mods or just save it. This thread was started to make the current system livable in the mean time.

If I had the money I'd do the performance parts and sound system. With the tweaked EQ settings my ears aren't experiencing fatigue so for now I'm happy with that.

I have to say..these settings sound horrible!! Rear speakers should be used as fill only and fading to the R4 defeats the purpose of having the bass up front (which is what every sound competitor in car audio competitions strive to achieve). Also, tuning with white noise and adjusting a a flat RTA response does not yield musical results..in fact just the opposite it sounds really bad. That's why people use many different EQ curves for Sound Q competitions. Here is a pic of my settings and these work pretty well for most music. I'm also 6'4" so my seat is all the way back so I'm not being blasted by the bright tweeters reflecting off the glass in my face. I have my fader and balance centered, ASL to 0. Take a listen on a few different types of music and save it as a setting to A/B compare to the above settings. Just my .02.

Got my BRZ today and just input and A-B tested both equalizer settings.
To my ears, chadstyle hit the mark though I did fade -1 to the rear.
I'll have a better idea tomorrow when I spend some time on the road.
Thanks to both of you for researching and posting.

Glad you like the settings. I'm still running the same settings on mine and I think its the best all around sound you can achieve with this system. I'm 6'4" and don't fade to the rear just due to my natural seat position. For some it may be helpful to fade -1 but if you're as tall as I am I'd leave it centered. At highway speeds you will notice the difference more than sitting still.
