MORNING!
Need some help as NOONE has been able to assist the local shops or the West Palm Beach Suburu dealership.....
ISSUE:
1. Had stock wheels - then I updated suspension to bags and lowering kit
2. Upgraded wheels to slightly larger with custom stance and tires (NO ISSUE)
3. Tire was 'stretched' too much to fit the wider rim (10") and broke the bead twice (towing required)
4. SOLUTION (we thought) - we went to a beefier tire, bigger sidewall, so more of a vertical rise off the bead of the rim, so less side to side pressure, added about 1.5-1.75" inch in overall diameter change from stock
5. PROBLEM::::: Within the first 3 miles, car immediately threw enough lights to light an XMAS tree - TC, ABS, power steering error, etc, etc. ENGINE CODE was a P2158 - "Engine Speed Sensor 'B' - which is the one located on the wheels.
SOOOO, the car didn't like that the forward sensor on the tranny was reading one speed but the change in tire size from stock to the larger diameter gave different readings on the back wheels - so, to TEST.
1. Took custom wheels off, reset computer
2. Put stockers back on - NO ERROR. Drove fine. No issues
3. Took stockers off, put custom back on - IMMEDIATELY threw the errors again.
QUESTION:
1. I can't find anyplace with any knowledge of reprogramming an ECU for a different tire size. I can't imagine I am the first person to have this issue? Tire size changed, and wheels are now slightly cambered, so the overall effect of cambering versus stock actually adds to the increase in 'height' difference from the center of gravity of the axel to the part touching the ground.
2. We are planning to put the old wheels back on but again run the risk of the bead breaking because the wheels are stretched a little more than I would like.
ANYONE have any thoughts on this? ECU reprogram? Tire size changes effecting the entire cars engine lights and sensors???
THANKS!!!
- Paul
