Hello! I just test drove a '13 BRZ with about 18k miles on it and only noticed one thing wrong. When pulling away from a stop in 1st gear for the first couple seconds it would make a loud clunking/rattle that sounded like it was coming from between the shifter and the storage tray behind it. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks!

That's where the transmission mount rubber isolator is located. Possibly a PO has damaged this. These cars can develop very serious wheelhop on a hard launch particularly if the tires have been upgraded. The loading caused by wheelhop feeds right into this rubber isolator. Indeed, there are several upgrade parts to reinforce this weak spot, all with noise increases (NVH effects due to more rigid mounting of the transmission tail shaft) as the price to pay.

Putting the car up on a hoist would allow easy inspection and replacement of this part.

Mines getting this upgrade some time this summer.
