This will be my first Subaru and I'm wondering how long the boxer engines usually last.

I've always driven Nissan products and the VQ engines usually last 300K miles. Anyone have info on the durability of the boxer?

some people have 680k on there boxer, ea81.

my close friend with a 96SVX has 299k miles on his no issue.
I have seen them in auction and stuff with 455k miles still running fine.
The engine design is not to fail.
keep it oiled and keep coolant, and it will outlast the car body.

My parents have 293k on their 2006 Outback 2.5i

there are youtube videos also.

to answer your question, it will last over 500k if you keep oil changed and don't spin a bearing on over rev.

A couple other companies use boxer motors, too. Porsche, and both BMW and Honda motorcycles use boxer's in some of their motorcycles.
Subaru is the only company that currently uses boxer motors exclusively in their entire line-up.

A 100K Subaru that's been taken care of is just well broken-in. I bought a WRX at 93K miles and I now race it competitively in SCCA RallyCross at 135K on the stock motor and turbo.
