Just put down a deposit on a BRZ

I joined the forum in December as I considered buying a BRZ among other options. I was in no rush. I wanted to enjoy the spring driving every option. As I did my research, I realized the list of what I wanted included only the BRZ. I want a small fun to drive sports car that would be at its best on back winding roads. The Cayman was a contender but I wanted to buy a new car and the Cayman cost twice as much as the budget will allow.

I prefer the BRZ over the GR86, preferring the BRZ for every difference between the two, especially the wheels and handling difference.

My preference was for a WR Blue, Limited with a manual transmission.

The plan was to buy a BRZ after I sold my current fun car, a MINI convertible. I assumed, I would have to give in on the color, wait a few months, and drive up to 500 miles to get my BRZ.

I found the local Subaru dealership had exactly what I wanted scheduled to be available in mid-May. They were willing to delete the port installed options and sell at $1,000 below MSRP with reasonable doc fees.

For some crazy reason, my wife agreed to let me buy it even before selling the MINI. In June, we will have 7 vehicles in the family fleet for 4 drivers when my daughter gets a company vehicle and won't need the one I have been providing.

I can't wait for my BRZ to be delivered.

I’m in Canada and I just put down a deposit last week. Same WRB I color, but AT. I had an hard time choosing between ice silver/WRB. The silver looks great, 2nd gen really pulled it off. However I still took the blue eventually cuz we don’t have any actual silver one in stock and I am assuming the silver might get boring soon imo. And WRB could never go wrong. Sad thing in Canada is, The car won’t be here until AUG.

Have you bought extended warranty? I’m not sure if I should get that.
I have never bought an extended warranty and never regretted it. About 50% of the price is profit. If you were to put the money aside each time you buy a car and spend it on maintenance. You would still likely be able to get your 10th car with the savings.

I have bought about a dozen new cars to this point, half Subaru. I keep them about 100,000 miles. The most I have ever spent on repairs that would have been covered for a single vehicle was about $800. For most it was zero.

The dealership makes most of their profit from the stuff they add on after you agree on a price for the car. Just say no.

Update.

I picked up the BRZ on 5/9 and have put about 300 miles on it so far. It took a few miles to get used to the clutch in the BRZ. The clutch in the MINI was significantly firmer. The firm clutch made rush hour traffic a struggle. While the plan is to drive the Mazda to work when I have to go into the office and the BRZ the rest of the week, the easier clutch on the BRZ will make taking it to work less of a challenge.

The MINI is likely heading to a Mecum auction later in the summer.

It’s killing me to not be able to park it in the garage. My half will be taken by the MINI for the next 2 months.


Any idea how long before a new member can post a non-introduction post? I am trying to help get some conversation going on the forum but it is hard when you can’t post a new post.
