I think you'll find your answers well documented in other threads. There was even one specifically discussing data already captured from the Japanese market. But like your list of questions, the data is incredibly topical and does little to help us understand with any depth, "what kind of people are going to buy... " or have bought the BRZ.

Being engaged in this forum should give you a moderate understanding of folks' respective character and lifestyle. Meeting fellow BRZ owners in person will give an even better perspective.

Since you're taking a census, I'll play along and add a couple questions of my own:

What's interesting is the BRZ full colored brochure that the dealer gave me shows this data. I found it kind of interesting. It seems to me that the car would appeal to a pretty large demographic but I would have thought specifally a younger one. I am 21, work in Auto/airbag manufacturing, am engaged, a female and currently drive a 2004 Cavalier LS Sport. It's a cute car, white SS stripes, metallic blue in color, chrome wheels, sunroof, 5 speeed manual, and has done a good job and been very reliable. I have never owned a new car and the BRZ will be my first.

I ordered:

Premium model with 6 speed manual trans.
Crystal Black Silica w/rear spoiler
Interior Dark Gray

Here is what Subaru states on the brochure about their target market:

Demographic group size: 9.8 Million
Median Age: 47
Median household income: $89,000
30% Have a post grad degree
46% Have a bachelors degree
67% have a Executive or White-collar jobs
64% Male, 36% Female
68% married
39% parents with children at home

A few other interesting things they say about their target market

Target Customer is: adventurous

Target customer is Culutred and refined
Art Festivals
First Fridays
Art Museusm Clubs

Target Competitors:

Mazda MX-5
Honda Civic Si
Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Mini Cooper S
Scion FR-S
VW GTI
Ford Mustang (Secondary)
Chevy Camaro (Secondary)

So you can see Subaru has put some time into researching it's target audience to come up with such specific ideas about who will want this car, their age, education, and career interests. I think it's off a little personally especially if you read who's posted so far. Doesn't exactly match what they are projecting. All I know is the car had me written all over it. That's all that matters.

I can see that most of those stats are leaning towards the daily driver crowd in non-AWD locations.

Myself, along with a few others on this forum, fall into a different target which Subaru is balancing nicely so far (...I have not been offended yet by anything "age-biased" from them yet). For us, this car will be an occasional, good-weather car to enjoy a couple thousand miles per year and put away when the snow flies either through casual or Auto-X driving.

I'd guess maybe 15-20% of total buyers will fall into this group with slightly higher percentages in colder climates. At my dealer alone, I know 2 of 10 allocations this applies to.

It sounds to me that she didn't really have an interest in cars, but had an interest in a dude who liked cars.

I'm the old **** so far at 43. Red limited 6MT, interior lights, rear mirror w/compass, underspoiler. Married to a great girl, 2 kids, professional in finance, white, 6' 1" 170. I drive a Mercedes E550 and have driven Mercedes since 2005. I'm looking for a fun third car to drive in the nicer weather. I've had other 3rd cars including a convertible and have realized I don't like open tops. Something about this car struck a chord as soon as I heard about it back in November. This will be my first manual and I have no idea how I'm driving it home from the dealer yet.

Revenge of the old farts. :) Without getting into too much detail... I'm 40, married, two kids. This'll replace my '08 STI as my daily driver. Nice summer days when I don't need to drive the kids sees my in an old Lotus Elan. The BRZ'll be our sixth Subaru. I am a huge rally fan but I also like sports cars, and after 11 years of WR blue turbo Imprezas, I'm ready to "change gears" and get into a very different car. Being a Lotus fan, I really appreciate the lightweight nature of the BRZ, which combined with our love of Subaru makes the BRZ a pretty easy car to get excited about!

FWIW, my wife's car is "only" an Outback but she has made it known that she wants to drive the STI a few more times before it goes away, and I'm sure she'll be eager to take the BRZ out sometimes!

Oh yeah - the BRZ - it'll be a gray Limited, manual, first in line at one of the biggest dealerships in the USA!
