I have noticed shortly after turning off the AC that the air coming out of the vents smells pretty bad. I assume the condensate tray has mold or something growing on it.

I have had it a little bit in other cars but never as persistent.

Has anyone else had this issue in their BRZ and what, if anything can be done?

inspect/clean/replace the cabin air filter.

If that doesn't help you probably have microbial growth on the AC condenser coils. You can try leaving the AC on and using max heat in an attempt to kill or atleast dry them out. If not you can also find a specialist.

I have a habit of turning off the AC a couple minutes before I plan to stop driving so as to dry out any residual moisture build-up. It's worked so far for me~

I have never seen a car not do this and this car is no worse or better. I imagine it has to do with variable temperature differences in the vents.

the salesman told me to get in the habit of turning off the AC BEFORE you turn off the car....kind of a hard habit to learn having never done this in any of my previous cars..he claimed it will help prolong the life of the AC...

I have attempted to remember turning off the AC before stopping but it seems to take blocks of driving to dry things off. Even a little defrost will activate the AC. Winnipeg isn't a particularly humid climate and I am surprised to smell this issue so often. It makes me yearn for winter. . . . .

My Honda CRV and Honda S2000 both suffer this fate although the S2000 to a lesser extent. The BRZ is the worst smell of the bunch, so much so that's it is embarrassing.

I noticed the same thing a few weeks ago. At first I thought I had just let one rip and forgot about it. Then the smell came back and I was sure I didn't let anything fly. It's been years since I've had a car with working AC so this has been news to me.

Oddly, my AC smells kind of sweet for some reason. I guess if its going to smell like anything I'd rather is smell like honeysuckle than anything off-putting
