The BRZ/FRS pipes engine noise into the cabin via a resonator. If one finds this "engine noise" too loud or annoying, can this resonator be deactivated or disconnected? Does anyone know?

I recently purchased a 2017 with Performance Pack and it now has 1,500 miles on it. It is an interesting car, better in some respects than I was expecting, and a little under par in some others. And one of them was this ghostly cabin noise; I kept thinking, "Hey, if it is this loud in here, every cop in the canyon can hear me coming". When I realized it was an on-purpose feature I found that pretty juvenile but traced the plumbing. Two things concern me. First, it is upstream of the mass airflow sensor, so modifying or removing it blow through SCCA C-Street class rules, and second, I do not know if messing with it triggers a CEC. I'd love to just rip the thing out but figure so obvious a change voids my warranty. At least I can wait for 5 years before a new car needs a smog check.
