I have been looking at some remote starters and I decided on the Viper 5701. I went to Best Buy to talk to the guys, and they won't install it if it's not in their system.

After calling a few buddies I learned of a guy that does a lot of remote starters for difficult vehicles and he said that he needs to be able to get the wiring diagram for the car in order to install it. It might be hard to find that on such a new car with low quantity.

Does anyone have experience with this? Does Subaru sell remote starter kits? He said some companies sell kits that you just plug in and they work ($700-$800, but warrantied).

Yes it is a manual. I've driven a manual for 10 years and I have never left it in gear. Also, the new remote starters have manual transmission sensors that check for the parking brake and if the car is in gear. The guy who will install it has been doing it for 15 years...he will know what to recommend.

Also, the BB where I live has a list of cars they don't install remote starters on. BMW, Audi, Jag...anything nice...because the installers are brain dead.

The dealership I bought my 2011 Civic Si from told me the OEM starter is like $600-800 but they could go down the street and have a $150 aftermarket starter installed.

It took a few hours for the place to install the remote starter because it is more complex on a manual tran.

NEVER had a problem with it. You have to arm it every time you exit the vehicle. My problem is sometimes I would forget my cell and leave it in the car. I would run outside unlock the doors grab my phone and run back inside. This unarmed the remote starter, so some mornings I'd have to start the car when I left the house and wait awhile for the engine to warm up.

That was the only issue I had, and that's more on an issue with me, not the starter :)

You don't need some super expensive remote starter bro

Look up local audio and alarm shops. They usually do tints too. An experienced installer should be able to get the alarm on the BRZ without too much trouble. There is no problem with remote starters and manual transmission. They have ways to prevent accidents from happening now.

No offense to anyone who has gotten an alarm installed at best buy, but I wouldn't go to best buy for an alarm install. Go to a specialized shop who does audio and alarms.

Just did a quick google search and some shops showed up.

Vibez and premier sound showed up. Of course do your own research and read reviews from people who have gone there before you go.
